This is the part I like the most and honestly, this is how it all began.
I have started to treat fun in a serious manner since I chose DJing as a career path, which happened about 8 years ago.
Trying to improve my mixing techniques constantly and paying attention to details such as harmonic keys, loudness and mix space when it comes to the tracks I want to play within a mix, I have realised how easy and pleasant is to combine different genres of music, such as Classical, Jazz, Latin and others, with House Music.
And by that I mean…imagine having some latin-tribal djembe hit by a Kick at 123 BPM with a soft-dancy Bassline and a mellow-jazzy Saxophone on top. I know we go towards music production here, but I have to say DJing is pretty similar to it - check the track I described above:
There is one approach I like to set for both DJing and music production, where I have to ask myself a few questions: Am I telling a story? Do I use the right elements (or ingredients if you would like) to tell the story? If so, does the audience like the story I tell, or does it actually understand it?
